Southern rockers Blackberry Smoke made their return to Paris, nearly a year and a half after their last date in the French capital. This time, they were promoting their new album Be Right Her, which showcases the band refining their mix of hard rock, country, and soul, while sharpening their songwriting. They played six tracks from the new release at the legendary Olympia, and the enthusiastic crowd welcomed them like old favorites.
There’s something timeless about that classic Southern sound: a gritty Gibson riff, harmonizing guitars, the slide of a glass bottleneck on steel strings, the steady groove of a tight rhythm section, and the warmth of a B3 organ holding it all together. But those elements alone wouldn’t mean much without the killer songs—full of grit, melody, and carried by a powerful, emotive voice.
Blackberry Smoke has taken the legacy of classic acts like Little Feat and Lynyrd Skynyrd and brought it into the present: this is Classic Rock for Modern Times.
