Simple Minds @ Zénith, Paris - April 18th, 2024

Boasting one of the most unassailable catalogues in pop and nearly two years after their last triumphant date in the French capital (well, Boulogne-Billancourt to be precise...), Simple Minds are returning to the Paris Zénith where they recorded their seminal live album In The City Of Lights back in 1986.

Aided by a spectacular light show and a tightly-knit backing band, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill ignited the Parisian hall alight with their melodic anthems, with an emphasis on their 80's output. Jim Kerr, ever the genial frontman, guided the audience on a nostalgic journey through timeDespite mentioning a cold affecting his vocals, Kerr's performance remained stellar from every vantage point. Of course, he was supported on the vocal front by the ever-dependable Sarah Brown, and a choir of about 7000 dedicated backing vocalists which sang along to every verse and chorus.

Charlie Burchill continues to shine as one of the era's finest guitarists, infusing each riff, motif, and line with equal parts prowess and significance, enriching the songs alongside Kerr's melodies. Witnessing his effortless mastery is always a treat.

An amazing evening displaying a captivating array of hits and timeless classics, reaffirming Simple Minds' status as one of pop/rock's indispensable bands.
