It's been a little over a year since the Sheepdogs headlined La Maroquinerie and it's always a treat to see them, even if they're playing a truncated set as they're only the support band on this bill. If there were some members of the audience who didn't know who they were, well they sure do now! They played a typically incendiary set full of guitar pyrotechnics, down home Southern grooves (although they hail from Canada) and gorgeous vocal harmonies.
The band recently parted ways with their guitarist Jimmy Bowskill and any apprehension we may have had regarding his replacement Ricky Paquette was quickly put to rest: the man is a monster player, and his considerably more "rock" style is perfect fit for the band. Sometimes change can be a good thing.
So the Sheepdogs kicked ass, as they are wont to do. Of course, we would have preferred to see them play a longer set. But they still managed to work the crowd into a frenzy, they just did it in 45 minutes instead of 90. And with Larkin Poe coming on stage shortly after them, one really can't complain.
