Overkill is back in Paris in support of their excellent new album Scorched. Last time they played here was almost exactly four years ago, in this very venue. Despite the absence of beloved bassist D.D. Verni (he was replaced by Christian "Speesy" Giesler, formerly of Kreator), Overkill was firing on all cylinders, playing sections from the new album as well as a slew of classics from the 80's and 90's like Horrorscope, Coma or Hello From The Gutter.
At nearly 64 years of age, frontman Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth is still as abrasive as ever, both vocally and attitude-wise. This is why he is one of the most entertaining, all-around badass characters in Metal.
It's reassuring to see that some things can be depended on. The proverbial "death and taxes". It's also comforting to know that despite having been around in one form or another for over four decades (or maybe because of it), Overkill is still a mean, green, killing machine.
