Paul Quinn, who co-founded Saxon in the mid-seventies and was one of two remaining original band members (the other, of course, being frontman Biff Byford) has announced his retirement from the road. While the band is quick to say that he remains a member and will carry on with upcoming recording duties, and may even appear with the band on some occasions, it does feel like the end of an era.
Biff and drummer Nigel have both had health struggles recently, but this news comes a little out of left field for the general public. Is there an undisclosed medical condition we might be unaware of? Since they've decided not to elaborate, it's really none of our business and all we can do is wish Paul the best and thank him for his decades of service. We saw the band last December and they were firing on all cylinders and as this chapter closes, we're looking forward to the next one.
