We've lost count of how many times this concert was postponed, but thankfully things are returning to a semblance of normalcy. This tour sees Tarja promoting her 2019 album In The Raw, backed by a stellar band comprised of Christian Kretschmar on keyboards, Max Lilja on cello, Alex Holzwarth on drums, Alex Scholpp on guitar and superstar Doug Wimbish on bass.
It's been nearly twenty years since Tarja left Nightwish, and she has accumulated quite the catalog since then, which means she really doesn't need to reference her former band all that much. Out of her ninety-minute show, she played one song from that bygone era, and the rest was devoted to her solo career. Her voice of course was the focal point of the show, and Doug Wimbish got the loudest cheers during the band introductions, but every musician got his turn to shine.
An excellent show which drew a rather diverse crowd: metal heads of course, but also pop fans, opera connoisseurs and symphony aficionados, all gathered under one roof, brought together by the power of music.
