Friday's Playlist: R.I.P. Christine McVie

Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac passed away a couple of days ago at the age of 79, so we thought we'd pay a little tribute by compiling this playlist of numbers she's written or sung on.

If all Christine did was write Don't Stop, You Make Loving Fun, Songbird and Little Lies, that would be enough to cement her legacy as one of the finest songwriters of her era. But she's had a lot more songs, both with and without Fleetwood Mac.

Before she joined the band and married John McVie, she was part of the British Blues band Chicken Shack under her maiden name Christine Perfect. She was brought into the fold a full half decade before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, yet never enjoyed their level of fame, and she always seemed like the most grounded one in this highly dysfunctional band of egomaniacs and drug addicts.

The emotional and sexual turmoil that plagued the band during the recording of the seminal album Rumours is the stuff of Rock n' Roll legend, but the reason those recordings are so enduring is the songs, many of which were written, co-written and sung by Christine McVie.

Unfortunately she wasn't touring with Fleetwood Mac when we saw the band in 2013 and now any hope of the Rumors-era line-up going back out on tour are forever quashed. But thankfully the records remain.

Enjoy, comment and share!
