Richard Marx @Alhambra Paris - September 24th, 2022

Richard Marx is out touring the world in a solo acoustic format and attending one of his shows is a great reminder of the staggering amount of hit songs he's written or co-written over the years, whether for himself or for acts as diverse as Vixen, Kenny Rogers, Luther Vandross, NSync, Barbra Streisand or Olivia Newton-John. Armed only with his guitar or piano, Richard regaled the audience with a selection of classics from his repertoire as well as a few songs from his upcoming record Songwriter which comes out in less than a week.

Almost as exquisite as the music was the stories he told on stage, the jokes, or the impromptu song snippets he would playfully throw into the setlist at the request of an audience member. It had been twelve years since Marx last graced a French stage (it was this very theater, actually) and consequently the Alhambra was absolutely packed for the occasion.

The song selection spanned his entire career, exquisitely sung and performed in this most intimate setting.  Classics and hits like Endless Summer Nights, songs made famous by other artists like Crazy, first sung by Kenny Rogers, and more obscure tracks requested by the audience like My Confession or Through My Veins. The evening ended with Don't Mean Nothing and the obligatory Right Here Waiting, sung in unison with a delighted audience that wished the concert wouldn't end.
