Iron Maiden @ Paris La Défense Arena, Nanterre - June 26th, 2022

Iron Maiden was last in town four years ago and this is the continuation of that same Legacy of the Beast tour which, like many things, was put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic. But since they've released Senjutsu last year, they've added a few songs from that album on this leg of the tour, and the change is both a good and a bad thing.
It's a good thing because changing things up is prevents things from going stale and helps drive home the point that Iron Maiden are not a nostalgia band. But on the other hand, the show was perfect how it was originally designed. And injecting some new material means making space for these songs by removing some of the older ones. Some fans who are adverse to change and prefer bands to rest on their laurels were likely to be disappointed by that move.

But for the rest of us, and I believe we are in the majority, the show was absolutely awesome as usual. The backdrops were gorgeous, the pyro was breathtaking, the props were a lot of fun and of course Eddie stole the show three times: In the first song, he came in his samurai guises, then a giant inflatable demon Eddie stared don the audience during Iron Maiden (the song) and of course Trooper Eddie gave the audience the middle finger during The Trooper.

Maiden know how to give the fans what they want while still moving forward. If the pandemic hadn't occurred, this concert would have happened two years ago and the band would be out promoting Senjustsu and playing a lot more songs from that new record. Instead, this hybrid tour is the best of both worlds.
