Friday's Playlist: Mixing Desk Hero: Tom Dowd

This Friday's Playlist celebrates one of the most legendary producers in popular music, whose career in genres as diverse as soul, jazz, blues, Southern rock and even punk (!) has spanned half a century and has led him to work with such luminaries as Ray Charles, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton... But enough with the man's credentials.

Tom Dowd died almost twenty years ago but his work lives on: he has helped shape American music how we know it today. This playlist is just a very superficial overview of his work: whether as an engineer or producer, he has been so prolific that it's impossible to tackle every artist he's worked with. But this should provide at least an insight into the breadth of his work and legacy.

Hard to believe this is our hundredth Friday's Playlist! That's a lot of music, hopefully you've enjoyed listening to them as much as we've enjoyed putting them together, maybe even discovered a few great tunes and artists and made you want to check out the albums.

You can check out our previous Friday's Playlists HERE.

As usual, enjoy, comment and share!
