The Flamin' Groovies are musical reactionaries. While the rest of the musical world was being progressive and embracing a music with that name, they went back to basics. Blues, rock, pop... the essentials. The bare necessities.
And nearly fifty years later they haven't strayed from their mission. Last night they delivered a great set of juicy, no frills rock and roll full of jagged riffs, tight rhythms and muscular harmonies featuring lots of classics as well as cuts from their excellent new record, Fantastic Planet. The remaining classic members may be old, but so is the music they play. As long as the flower shirts and the wigs fit, and more importantly as long as the passion is there, there is no reason why they shouldn't go on and shake some action for a few decades more.
