Billy Cobham @ New Morning, Paris - February 16th, 2017

Unlike his erstwhile bandmate John McLaughlin Billy Cobham plays Paris pretty frequently but it's always a treat to catch him at the New Morning.

As usual he is surrounded by an absolutely killer band, featuring guitar madman Dean Brown whose spiky leads and funky rhythms perfectly complemented his leader's thunderous beats. Since the tour is named 40 Years of Spectrum (it's been 44, but who's counting?) they played plenty of numbers from that seminal album. The mood was very relaxed and the musicianship was obviously very high. A great night of jazz fusion.
