The Who @ le Zénith, Paris - June 30, 2015

On the hottest day of the year, five thousand people decided it would be a good idea to step into a closed space with no air conditioning and dance.

The reason is that The Who are in town. They were supposed to play two sold-out dates but they cancelled one in order to play Glastonbury (don't get me started) and now all of the fans are squeezed into one show.

The first thing I noticed is that the door behind the stage is open. It would remain so for the whole gig to let some air in. I didn't even know there was a door there and I've been to this venue maybe thirty times.

A very odd start to the gig as they bypassed Can't Explain and went straight into Who Are You. It's a great opener but it was a shame to not hear their awesome first single. Thankfully that was the only disappointment of the night: they played an epic set. No deep cut (unless you count The Seeker as a deep cut, as it was never an album release) but fantastic performances from everyone. This is not the band we've heard on Live At Leeds but it's the next best thing. It's The Who, today.
