Marcus Miller @ Olympia, Paris - April 13, 2015

Marcus Miller's new record Afrodeezia is perhaps his most ambitious, accomplished and exciting project, which is no small feat considering his vast body of work. On this album he finally gets to delve into his roots and build a bridge between ancient and modern, innovation and tradition, urban and rural, America and Africa.

The band is on fire, sounding very much of its time without compromising its primal authenticity. And more importantly its groove. Marcus Miller is still the grooviest bass player this side of Stanley Clarke, and it was heartbreaking having to leave midway through the show but on the other side of town, Mike Stern was playing. That's the price you pay for living in Paris: sometimes there is too many great concerts and if you're like me and can't decide, then you have to compromise.
